European Week of Sport

#BeActive

The European Week of Sport was launched in 2015 by the European Commission to address the worsening inactivity crisis in Europe. The European Commission has set itself the goal of sensitizing the population through public awareness and rethinking their behaviour towards a more active lifestyle.

This goal is to be achieved through a European wide campaign that has been growing year after year mobilising millions of citizens in every edition across the continent. From September 23rd to 30th the whole Europe goes under the #BeActive motto, with a variety of events and activities for all. No matter who you, where you are or what you do the European Week of Sport is your chance to start living an active life.

In Germany, the national coordination is done by the German Gymnastics Federation since 2016. The 2019 edition hosted over 500 events across the country, with highlight activities in Frankfurt as the flagship location and kick-off event host. The 2020 edition is a special one, since Germany is holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union and thus hosting the official opening of the Week with an event in Frankfurt.
